About the Book

Title: An Accidental Romance
Series: The Jennings Family
Author: Karen Tuft
Genre: Regency Romance
Publisher: Covenant Communications
Release Date: December 6, 2021

Rebecca Jennings’s first London Season has been absolutely ruined, and one person alone is responsible: Mr. Ben Fortescue. If her new neighbor hadn’t startled her, she would never have broken her ankle, leaving her bored and frustrated at home in the country while her sister enters the London Season alone. Although, it was rather gallant of him to carry her home . . .

For his part, Ben feels terrible about the role he played in Miss Rebecca Jennings’s accident. In the days that follow their first disastrous meeting, he finds himself inexorably drawn to the surprising young woman—first out of guilt and then out of a stirring affection. But Ben hides a secret: he has not been completely forthright about his identity or about the dark secrets of his past that would make it impossible for romance to blossom with Miss Jennings. Despite his love for her, he knows he must let her go.

With her ankle finally healed but her heart now broken, Rebecca is left with little choice but to throw herself into the Season. With eligible men circling this late addition to the Marriage Mart, it seems that Rebecca will have no shortage of suitors. If only her heart were free to give.

My Review

An Accidental Romance
by Karen Tuft
Book 3 in the Jennings Family series
Rating: 4/5

As someone who has never read anything from Karen Tuft before, I was delighted by this sweet romance that has many similarities to Jane Austen and her commentary on society at the time. I found the story refreshing and beautifully written. I now need to go back and read the first two books in the series. However, I was able to read this book as a standalone. The author provides some family trees in the beginning to help keep track of characters but I honestly found it unnecessary to refer back to it.

Rebecca Jennings is a sweet young lady whose dreams of her first season “out” in London society are crushed when she fractures her ankle due to an accidental encounter with her new neighbor, Mr. Ben Fortescue, the Earl of Winton. Ben is a widower with a young baby girl who is trying to hide away from society. The characters have some great interactions and some electric chemistry together. The author creates a story where her characters can grow and maybe even fall in love.

Highly recommend if you enjoy clean, sweet romance with some Jane Austen flair.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Release Date: October 4, 2021

Charlie Jonquil is mild-mannered and kind―except when it comes to his one true adversary, Artemis Lancaster. Though Charlie has a brilliant mind for mathematics, Artemis poses a problem he can’t seem to comprehend: how can one be so lovely and so infuriating? A party in London brings him into the company of the maddening young lady, and it is clear that Charlie’s disdain is mutual. But when an unfortunate incident between the pair involving Charlie’s jacket and a glass of raspberry shrub leads to scandal, the sworn enemies are left with only two options: be ruined or be married.

So it is that Artemis finds herself in a most outrageous predicament: she must wed a gentleman she’s hated for years―and she pledges to avoid him at all costs. But it is only when they enter into this mockery of a marriage that Charlie and Artemis learn things are not as simple as they once appeared. As their tentative ceasefire leads to friendship, it seems their marriage born of desperation might lead them to a love that was destined to be.

My Review

Charming Artemis
by Sarah M. Eden
Rating: 4.5/5

Wow. What an incredible ending! This book made me cry and laugh and fall in love with the Lancaster and Jonquil families. Can I be a part of these families? I must admit that I’ve never read any of the other books and now must go back to discover all the details that I’ve missed. However, I definitely believe the book can be read by itself but the other stories definitely would be helpful to read in order. In the back of the book, there was a suggested reading order which I will have to follow in the future. My TBR list just keeps getting longer and longer lol.

Charlie and Artemis are quite the characters with their own insecurities and flaws but with hearts that just want to be loved and accepted for who they are. I felt Artemis was very unlikeable at times but the author tried her best to explain why she was the way she was. I loved the Charlie could see right through Artemis’ facade immediately upon meeting her and wouldn’t let her get away with it. Who doesn’t love an enemies-to-lovers romance? The chemistry between the two was swoonworthy and the process was believable. Artemis’ Papa was an interesting mystery (though a bit creepy at first) to start the book with. I guessed it halfway through and was interested to see how it all played out. I loved the Gents and Layton was probably the favorite lol. I’m wondering if there’s more about the Gents and their stories? I’ll have to research more. I loved Adam’s character too and am interested in learning more (I’ll have to read the previous books).

Highly recommend if you enjoy a Regency enemies-to-lovers romance that’s clean, heartwarming and makes you want to believe in the Divine.

About the Author

Alene Wecker (Author of An Engagement of Sorts)

Debut novelist Alene Wecker stumbled into the profession while trying to entertain herself during a banal bout of bedrest. But the characters in her head wouldn’t leave her alone until she gave them space on the page. She hopes you will be as entertained by her character’s antics as she was.

As a mother, voice teacher, and opera singer, she must have a penchant for fun but poorly-paid professions. She likes to pretend that her experience and master’s degree in vocal performance come in handy as she describes debutantes who, like herself, speak several languages and are frequently forced to display their mediocre skills at the pianoforte.

Alene lives in a century-old, Craftsman-style home in Lehi, Utah, with her husband, six children, and a prankster of a ghost whom she has affectionately named Casper.

My Review

An Engagement of Sorts
by Alene Wecker
Rating: 4.5/5

I love finding new authors who write beautiful and witty stories about love and its many mishaps. Alene Wecker does it all with hilarious aplomb and I can’t wait to read more from her. I enjoyed the story so much that I purchased the ebook for myself! 😉

As someone who enjoys reading about strong female leads, especially in times where women were regarded as the “weaker sex”, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the main character, Anne Fletcher, was so relatable and passionate and never felt like she fit in the way her mother wanted her to. She preferred to ride and hunt with her father and brother. When Anne is sent to London for her first “season” she must do her best to find a fiancé to prevent herself from marrying her best friend (who she loves as a brother), Will Skinner, the local country vicar. When the flirtatious Mr. Thomas Paling continues to call on her and frustrate her, she must learn to hide her feelings about him. When faced with past trauma, Anne must find a way to rescue her friends from an evil man and Mr. Paling offers to help her. Can she and Mr. Paling work together to obtain the evidence to put an evil man behind bars? Can Anne continue to deny what’s in her heart?

The author weaves a clever and hilarious story about two people who are flashy and passionate and don’t fit the mold that society dictates. I feel like everyone has felt like they didn’t fit the mold at one time in their lives. The characters are so relatable and adorable and I just loved this romantic comedy. Though predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of the story and would love to read more. Anne’s vibrant personality was so lively and endearing. I found Mr. Paling to be so endearing and passionate. The way that he believed in Anne was so inspiring and beautiful.

“Do not change who you are because of me. You are a rushing waterfall so loud it deafens all else. Your beauty is in your raw power. Stop trying to tame yourself into a tinkling fountain.”

Highly recommend if you enjoy Jen Turano and Esther Hatch’s writing with feisty heroines and hilarious banter and happenings.

Content: Clean read but some instances of predatory behavior toward women.
