Genre: Medieval Fantasy, Time-Travel Romance
Publisher: Eagle Gate Publishing
Release Date: June 1, 2021

After a rough stint at work in the ER, Dillon Kelly is more than a little ready for a vacation when he packs his bags and sets off on a camping trip in the wilds of Ireland. But when a mysterious dagger covered in druidic markings appears in his backpack, Dillon finds himself hurtled into the fourteenth century. Thrust into the legends and politics of ancient Ireland, he is rescued from suspicious locals by a beautiful young woman named Ailish.

Ailish has always dreamed of being a bard, but there’s just one problem: women aren’t allowed. Determined to follow her heart, Ailish has fooled everyone into thinking she’s a boy—everyone, that is, except for Dillon. He’s agreed to keep her secret in exchange for her help in finding his way home to his own time. Despite the impossible barriers between them, feelings beyond friendship soon blossom. But more than just their budding romance is in danger. Ailish isn’t the only one who recognizes the dagger’s druidic significance, and there are those who would stop at nothing to harness its time-bending powers.

About the Author

Margot Hovley grew up a country kid in Washington State, where she filled the tedious hours of farm chores with an overactive imagination. She loves her work with her church’s international magazines, but fiction writing is her favorite creative outlet. Time’s Dagger is her third published full-length novel. She lives in northern Utah at the foot of her beloved mountains, where she chases chickens and grandchildren and teaches piano to the somewhat willing. Helping run the family business is hectic, but she loves working with her husband, Art, and several of the Hovley children. How she finds time for writing is both a miracle and a mystery.

My Review

Time’s Dagger
by Margot Hovley
Rating: 4/5

Apparently time-travel is in right now. I have read a handful of new releases involving time-travel and it’s been a blast! Although I did receive an ARC, I borrowed the book on Kindle Unlimited too. I thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful love story that was full of humor and mystery. I always enjoy reading about how characters adjust to the different time and cultures but I liked the idea of the dagger helping with the transition. The Druidic beliefs were interesting to learn about and definitely helped move the story along. The story was slower in different parts but it still held my interest and I was proud to have guessed the twist.

Beautifully written characters made this medieval Ireland stand out. I truly wish I could heard Ailish’s voice and her harp playing. As a musician, I loved seeing that she did what she could to follow her dreams and beliefs. I loved how Dillon recognized her right away. I thought it was interesting that the author chose to have the man travel back in time – reminds me of Somewhere in Time. It was interesting to see a physician’s assistant work in that time and his fears about the Black Plague.

Highly recommend if you enjoy sweet, clean romance with time-travel, mystery and magic.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Book Review: No Unturned Stone by David James Warren

No Unturned Stone
by David James Warren
Book 2 in the True Lies of Rembrandt Stone series
Rating: 4.5/5

This time-traveling saga continues with Detective Rembrandt Stone trying to figure out what went wrong and how he can fix it. You definitely need to read the first book before reading this one or the story won’t make any sense.

Detective Stone has returned to his timeline only to find that tragedy has touched his family and life in unimaginable ways and whatever he did in the past has changed his present timeline. As he wonders why his old boss gave him the mysterious watch, he struggles with the changes in his life and wonders if he can have his former life back. When he gets sent back to another time in the past to solve another murder, Rembrandt hopes that he can make the right change to put his life back together. His relationship with Eve is inevitable, right? While Rembrandt deals with the ramifications from solving that first cold case, he does his best to solve another murder case which may be related to a serial killer. While trying to solve that murder, he also tries to play guardian angel. What will be the consequences of his actions if he tries to intervene again?

In this second installment, the reader learns a bit more about the purpose of the time-traveling watch and why it was given to Rembrandt. Inevitably, Rembrandt can’t get his new present out of his head and is determined to somehow get his old life back. He struggles with the decision of whether or not to change the past – to take action to save lives. As a reader, I completely understand his predicament and his drive to save people, but I also empathize with his inability to comprehend that his actions have severe consequences. I enjoyed this trio’s writing and the filling out of the characters. I like hearing both Rembrandt’s and Eve’s voices. This story is only just beginning. and of course, it ends on another cliffhanger reveal that has me demanding the next book now. LOL.

Highly recommend this exciting time-traveling saga with romance, mystery, and suspense. You won’t want to miss this continuation of the story.
