About the Book

Title: Some Like It Scot
Author: Pepper Basham
Genre: Christian Contemporary Romantic Comedy
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: April 8, 2025

She lives her life on the fly. His heart is double-knotted to home. Can two different souls create a life together?

Popular travel writer and podcaster Katie Campbell roams the world collecting other people’s stories. She’s built a career as “Miss Adventure,” known for saying yes to anything new–country, food, or experience–and predictably finding those adventures taking a downward turn into misadventures.

Offered the chance to explore her ancestral roots through a three-week Edwardian experience, Katie finds herself immersed in the beauty and eccentricity of Scotland. In her period attire, with traditional foods and activities, the opportunities for misadventures are endless, especially with the presence of a maniacal macaw, a jealous co-worker, and an all-too-surly Scotsman.

Reclusive and protective Graeme MacKerrow doesn’t venture far from his island home. A stoic Scotsman, Graeme’s comfort zone has always been family, and after his sister’s death, he’s even more determined to save the MacKerrow ancestral home and keep those he loves close. The sudden intrusion of a six-foot-one American lass, famous for her traveling misfortunes, was far from his plan.

As this world of folklore, community, and woodworkers-in-kilts tempts Katie to discover her own story, could this one grand series of misadventures lead her directly to where she belongs? And would a settled-in-Scot ever risk loosening his grip on what’s familiar to allow a wanderlust writer a home in his heart? How could their very different worlds share the same page of life’s story when “home” is in two very different places? But maybe home–and the future–isn’t quite what either one imagined it would be. Maybe home is less about a place . . . and more about a person.

My Review

Some Like It Scot
by Pepper Basham
Rating: 4.5/5

Wow. Wow. I haven’t read much from this author but I will definitely be reading more. This contemporary story was so good. I absolutely fell in love with the main characters. I laughed. I cried. I swooned. The dialogue is witty and punny. I did not want to stop reading. I absolutely want more stories from the MacKerrow family. I loved how the author was able to weave some of her faith into the story without being preachy. I enjoyed the visit to Scotland and even listened to the story with a Scottish voiced Siri.

Highly recommend this clean romantic comedy that will take you on a wild misadventure through Scotland and make you fall in love!

My Review

Rescued Duty
by Lisa Phillips, Laura Conaway
Book 5 in the Last Chance Fire and Rescue series
Rating: 4/5

This action-packed thriller with romance and mystery was filled with all the things that make up a great story. The authors did an excellent job of fleshing out the main characters and giving them believable back stories with flaws and endearing traits. The mystery keeps the reader guessing until the end. The romance is sweet and messy at times with all the insecurities and feelings that happen when two broken people try to get together. I will definitely be reading more from these authors and in this series.

Highly recommend this clean, fiery romantic suspense thriller that will keep you guessing until the end.

Meet Jack, a tracker with a past he’s trying to escape the first epic book of the Minnesota Kingston series by USA Today bestselling author Susan May Warren.

Now, he sort of likes his loner world as a missing person’s tracker. Well, mostly. But of course, when he returns home for his sister’s wedding, there she is…

Nope, not forgotten at all.

Of course Jack the Grump has shown up for his sister’s wedding, and by the way he looks at Harper, um, clearly her sins aren’t forgiven. So what—she’s sooo over her best-friend’s brooding, dark oldest brother. Really.

Then a bridesmaid goes missing.

And sure, Harper is a journalist who knows how to sniff out truth, but the clock is ticking and there’s only one person who can help…Perfect. No problem. She’s not going to fall for her childhood crush again. Promise.

Yes, Jack can admit that Harper’s not the girl he used to call Pigtails anymore. She’s all grown up…but he’s not going to get burned again. Still, what’s a guy going to do?

So, find her missing friend, get the bride down the aisle and ditch town before they find themselves in over their heads…or worse.

Dead.

My Review

Book: Jack
Author: Susan May Warren
Series: Book 1 in the Minnesota Kingstons series
Rating: 4.5/5

I was not ready for all that this story was going to offer. I read the story in one morning because it was that good. I was excited to revisit old friends from other series from the author and I was not disappointed. I loved all of the family dynamics and I do love a story that involves a chosen family. The story is full of fast-paced action and mystery which continues to keep you guessing. As someone who is a fan of the TV show, Tracker, I loved the incorporation of Jack’s occupation as a rewardist. I also enjoyed the second chance at romance which made me root for the couple. The only thing about the story that was different was that the faith thread was not as strong in this story as it usually is in the author’s other stories. I found some great spiritual truths in the story still but it was different. I also loved all the different setups for future stories and cannot wait to read what comes next.

Highly recommend this thrilling story with action, mystery and romance!
