About the Book

Title: Brooke
Series: The Metcalfes #4
Author: Ronie Kendig
Publisher: Task Force Pres
Release Date: February 6, 2023
Genre: Clean with faith elements, Romantic Suspense

Prioritizing career over family cost Brooke Metcalfe Mulroney everything—her relationship with her siblings, her marriage, her children. Written off by her family, she delves deeper into her work. Until a life-altering moment offers a chance at something she didn’t know she wanted—redemption. But her self-centered ways nip at her heels as she goes on the lam to do what she knows is right.

Former Special Forces operator and founder of MiLE, Cord Taggart wages war on human trafficking by taking the violence to the wicked, determined to never again let an innocent die because he did nothing. But maybe he’s bitten off more than he can chew this time as he works to track down New York City high-powered attorney Brooke Metcalfe, who is MIA. Then there’s her brothers who have threatened to chase him into the afterlife should he fail.

Tricky are the hours as Cord negotiates many battles: freeing the captives, demolishing the Trench that has made millions off the skin-trade industry, and his growing, deep-rooted feelings for the bombshell in her highfalutin tower. Brooke must put her life—and heart—in the hands of the thick-skulled operator.

My Review

Brooke
By Ronie Kendig
Book 4 in the Metcalfes series
Rating: 5/5

Wow. Just wow. Ronie Kendig keeps getting better and better. You can tell she really put in the work to make this book as authentic as possible. The story is so good and horrifying. It’s definitely not a light read but it is well written and shines a light into the darkness of trafficking. The characters are well fleshed out and I loved the romance. The story is well balanced and has something for everyone – a little mystery, a little action, a little romance. The author brings in a lot of characters from other series which was fun to see. This story could be read on its own but I highly recommend reading all the books in this amazing series! You won’t regret it!

Highly recommend this intriguing story that’s engaging, thrilling and horrifying as it shines a light into the darkness of human trafficking.

My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own. No positive review was expected and no compensation received.

Excerpt 3

A new clothing company had just come out that utilized consultants to sell their trendy tees
and luxurious leggings. Most sales took place online, but I was hesitant to purchase without
trying on the clothes. Not knowing any local consultants, I reached out to some friends. One
happened to know a young woman who set up shop in an RV outside her home, which she
opened from time to time. Customers could visit in person, look around, and use the tiny
makeshift dressing room to try on the tees, leggings, skirts, and dresses.

When the day arrived for the next open shopping event, I made my way up the windy mountain
road to the woman’s property. I was getting a bit nervous that this was nothing more than a
lure when I turned the corner and saw the RV parked beside a house. I breathed a sigh of relief
and pulled off to the side of the road behind a van that was loaded down with a mom, dad, and
more than a few kiddos. The husband took the children down the road a bit farther to play while
the wife and I walked into the RV together. In turn, we introduced ourselves to the consultant, who asked what we were looking for. The woman I had walked in with peered out the window to
make sure her family was out of earshot. Her eyes lit up as she told us, “My husband promised
me three new dresses in exchange for putting up with his mother for an entire week.” But then
she went on, “Let me tell you, it was tough! Everything she said the entire week just flew all over
me.” (The southern way of saying her mother-in-law was pushing all her buttons.)

She continued, “Nothing I do is ever good enough for her. I can’t tell you the number of times
she has hurt my feelings. My husband thinks I am being too sensitive. Either way, we’re like
Marie and Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond. I’m glad to be getting these three dresses,
but I don’t think spending a week with her was worth it.”

As the consultant chuckled and nodded affirmatively, helping the woman sort through the rack
of dresses, I casually looked through the clothing. While I slid one hanger at a time to the left in
order to get a better view of the next piece, I felt grateful that I get along well with my mother-in-
law. But then I thought, We women get easily offended an awful lot.

I’m Not Charlotte Lucas by Kasey Stockton

About the Book

Title: I’m Not Charlotte Lucas
Author: Kasey Stockton
Genre: Clean Romantic Comedy
Publisher: Covenant Communications
Release Date: February 7, 2023

Northern California girl Charlotte “Charlie” Lucas has two great loves: Diet Coke and Pride and Prejudice. But her passion for Regency classics is tempered by a very real fear: Charlie is terrified of having to endure the fate of her namesake—spinsterhood. Despite her best attempts to maintain a modern sensibility, she can’t say no when an elderly neighbor asks Charlie to attend a charity ball with her grandson. Blind date or not, Charlie is powerless to resist the allure of a real-life ball. Soon it’s clear that she will struggle to resist the charms of her blind date too.

Liam Connell is every bit the swoon-worthy leading man, straight out of Charlie’s daydreams. But he’s completely unattainable—his last girlfriend was a gorgeous actress and a far cry from Charlie’s world. So after a magical evening with Liam, Charlie is ready to get back to reality, even if her best option right now is a former boyfriend who wants to give it another shot. Unfortunately, despite imagining she’ll never see Liam again, he seems to be everywhere. How is a lady to move past a fantasy when life suddenly seems to be imitating fiction to an alarming degree?

My Review

I’m Not Charlotte Lucas
by Kasey Stockton
Rating: 4.5/5

As a fan of Jane Austen, I was excited to obtain an ARC of this book and it did not disappoint. I literally read it in less than 24 hours and was entertained at every moment. The characters were authentic and fun. I feel like this story could have been a Hallmark movie. It gives all the warm fuzzies while making you laugh and smile. The heroine is someone who you want to root for and the hero is swoon-worthy. I definitely will be reading more from this author!

Highly recommend if you enjoy clean rom-coms that will make you keep reading to the end!
